Spring Flowers

WHAT’S GOING ON IN THE FOREST?

I’m hoping that this year’s flowers on our grafted apple tree in front of the office actually produce this year; We’ll see. This tree was grafted about 6 years ago, and first bore flowers last year, which died soon afterwards due to frost damage. In any case, fruit flowers are really beginning to push out down by me in central Ulster County. Peaches are just about fully flowered, apple are just beginning and some pears are fully out. Serviceberry has already gone to seed. The nice thing is that when flowers are done at 900 feet elevation where I live, my commute to 1500 feet in Arkville lets me see them all over again. Let’s hope for a drier spring/summer than last year, which really did in many of our fruit trees.

May the forest be with you,
