Forest History Walk

July 15 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free

The Catskill Region’s forests have been shaped immensely by the land use history of our recent, and also very distant past. Some trees only grew here because of the actions of the people who came before us. We will walk through a forest describing the trees around us and point out the obvious, and sometimes very subtle clues that indicate what happened here more than 200 years ago to cause this tree to sprout. We will also discuss how our current actions (or lack thereof) will shape the forests of the future and what that might mean for people, wildlife, forest health, and forest history to come.

This event is Free.

We would like to thank Renee Hardenkamp + Uplands Center for helping make this event happen.
