WHAT’S GOING ON IN THE FOREST?
We’re in full swing with pruning apple trees. The weather seems to be holding well too. I consider good pruning weather to be slightly below freezing. These colder temperatures reduce the chances of bark tear while pruning. When it gets too warm, the bark becomes “sappy”, and you have to be more careful. In any case, we’re fully scheduled pruning CFA members’ apple and pear trees–113 of them! New this year to the Apple Tree Pruning Season is CFA’s New Education Forester–Giovanna D’Angelo. Let’s hope for a fruitful year!
