WHAT’S GOING ON IN THE FOREST?
A tree is only considered “hazardous” if there are “targets” nearby onto which it can fall. “Targets” are considered people, property, etc. The more permanent or frequent targets are near trees likely to “fail”, the more hazardous the condition. This white pine recently failed or toppled over after the last snow-storm. It directly hit the playground equipment. Fortunately, the likelihood that “targets” or kids are around and playing during snow-storms or wind events is less likely , but you never know. On further inspection, the interior of the pine tree was riddled with ants and deadwood which weakened its mechanical strength.
