WHAT’S GOING ON IN THE FOREST?

Streams are pretty low right now. Since I normally go for trout found in streams, I haven’t fished since early summer due to low flow. Trout are stressed when streams are down, probably due to higher stream temperatures, lower oxygen levels, and less food being brought in through rainfall events. In any case, streamflow normally rebounds in fall, especially after leaf-drop. Trees take up a tremendous amount of water from the soil and transpire it through their leaves (evapotranspiration). We were fishing a pond located on the opposite side of this stream.
