WHAT’S GOING ON IN THE FOREST

The significance of this sign seen on State Route 30 in Margaretville wasn’t lost on me. It’s something hopefully that will be more common in the future in the Catskill Mountains and beyond in the northeast. CFA conducted its first–very small–prescribed burn a week ago. This burn was approved by NYS DEC after a Burn Plan was submitted last fall. We hope to do 2 more later this year and after that more routinely. Prescribed burning will be conducted on CFA members’ properties to improve wildlife habitat. Right now, getting smoke in the air and familiarizing northeasterners to fire culture is most important. Thank you to all of you that donated to CFA to make this program possible.

May the Forest Be with You,
