WHAT’S GOING ON IN THE FOREST?
I transplanted this sycamore 6 or so years ago. Last winter I took a photo of it. At the time, it showed no signs of the bark flaking. As sycamore matures, its bark begins to take on a camouflage pattern with flaking bark that I find attractive. As you can see, this photo taken in November shows the tree’s bark really beginning to expand and flake. This tree sure is growing! Sycamore has highly attractive bark, grows fast, can tolerate poorly drained sites, has large maple-shaped leaves, and normally a strong central leader that can withstand storm damage. I highly recommend planting this tree; Just give it plenty of space.
