Many properties in the Catskills have an apple tree or two, planted by a farmer years ago or growing wild. Most of them have been neglected or never pruned at all. Or, maybe your property has a younger tree you’d like to set up for success. A well-developed structure enhances a tree’s ability to create fruit buds and helps it withstand fruit, wind & snow loads, and the weight of wildlife that might clamber up into branches. CFA field staff Ryan Trapani & Zane Lawyer will show you how to prune an apple tree with wild form for structural integrity, fruit production, and aesthetics.
