WHAT’S GOING ON IN THE FOREST?

Didn’t get a chance to make it into the woods much lately. Instead, the recent snowfall found me shoveling snow & splitting some wood. As you might already know, splitting wood can be quite easier (sometimes) after wood fibers have frozen. The wood “wants” to split apart since it’s under pressure. Besides that, I found myself still cleaning up from this year’s hunting season. Took all the fat I accumulated from 3 deer & rendered it down into some white lard – this will be used for future soap-making – something to do I guess. The last deer I harvested in the latter half of December had almost twice as much fat as the deer taken back in October & November. I guess that makes sense, since they’re getting ready for winter & had all of fall & some of winter to feed.

May the forest be with you,
