WHAT’S GOING ON IN THE FOREST?
There’s a tree I first became aware of when my first daughter was born in 2013–Korean dogwood (Cornus kousa). I noticed it outside the hospital in Rhinebeck growing vigorously beside the building; It was loaded with fruit. I didn’t realize that this dogwood berry is actually edible & taste like mild raspberries. I wondered if this tree grew well high up in the mountains as well and have since realized it does. One of our members has them planted near 2700 feet and I found another last week right in Prattsville at the entrance sign. The Prattsville tree is the largest one I have seen yet & it was loaded with fruit. This might be a good tree if you’re looking for something smaller to plant near the house.

May the forest be with you,
