WHAT’S GOING ON IN THE FOREST?

Every time I see this mountain’s silhouette, it sure does remind me of home. It’s the silhouette of Paltz Point or “Sky Top” on the Shawangunk Ridge that sits above the Wallkill & Rondout Valleys. The stone fire tower was built in 1923 and is one of the oldest fire towers in New York State. It staffed a fire observer by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation from 1923 to 1971 and is owned by the Mohonk Mountain House. In any case, I can see it today from my home in central Ulster County where I now live but growing up in New Paltz, the tower was viewed in reversed.

May the Forest Be with You,
