WHAT’S GOING ON IN THE FOREST?
If you’re not familiar with this tree, you might want to; It’s pawpaw. They make large banana custard-like fruit. What’s just as good is that deer don’t seem to browse the foliage for some reason. The pawpaws I see contain leaves down to the ground without protection from a fence. This pawpaw was found on the property of Mohonk Mountain House (about 1,000 feet in elevation). The fruit will grow to be much larger (The size of a small football in some cases). For areas that are Zone 4, I’m not sure, but have heard you can. Zone 5 and above seem to be warm enough to grow this tree in.
May the forest be with you,
