WHAT’S GOING ON IN THE FOREST?

Saw this tree growing far up the mountain in the Town of Olive doing great. It looks like an American holly tree (Ilex opaca). Despite being a broad-leafed tree, it keeps its leaves all year round. You can also see its attractive red berries. The inside of this tree was full of bird life who probably seek it out for shelter from the elements and the berries for food too. American holly can grow up to 40 feet but is apparently slow growing. It can tolerate some shade but does better in full sunlight and acidic soil. What a nice tree full of color, especially this time of year.
