WHAT’S GOING ON IN THE FOREST?

After today, it seems like the entire extended forecast is showing a general warming trend. In other words, here comes the heart of the maple season. I think I’m just about half done with my season. Already, I’m just about over a quart of syrup per tap. If a maple producer averages 1/2 gallon of syrup per tap, that’s really good. I’ve never made more than 1/2 gallon per tap, so this coming 10 to 14 days might be the 2nd half of the season; we’ll see. In any case, when the maple trees are running, surely the beginning of late winter/early spring has fully set in.

May the forest be with you,
